Dakar : 15 boulangeries fermées et plus de 11 000 baguettes saisies par la brigade régionale d’hygiène
The regional hygiene brigade of Dakar carried out a large-scale control operation on Friday, April 24, 2026, which led to the dismantling of 15 traditional bakeries, with an immediate cessation of their activities.
The operation, led by Captain Idrissa Ndiaye, is part of the strengthening of health monitoring of food production establishments.
During this operation, officers seized 1,325 liters of used oil and 11,307 baguettes transported in conditions deemed unfit for consumption. Four individuals were also apprehended. The observed violations resulted in fixed fines totaling 3,600,000 CFA francs.
The hygiene services remind us that their mission is primarily preventive and communicative, but that it can take on a repressive character when public health is threatened.
To this end, they encourage citizens to report any suspicious or non-compliant practices, stressing that collective vigilance remains essential to contain health risks.
Furthermore, the authorities welcome the commitment expressed by the President of the Republic during the last Council of Ministers meeting, aimed at strengthening the material and human resources of this key public health body. This momentum should allow for more intensive monitoring and a more effective achievement of the objectives of protecting the population.
Faced with the persistence of certain risky practices, hygiene services are calling for continued mobilization, reminding everyone that some illegal structures may still escape surveillance.
