The Sandiara town hall has broken its silence in the face of the controversy surrounding the recent eviction operations in the municipality. In a statement sent to Seneweb, the municipality issued a firm clarification, rejecting all responsibility for these operations and denouncing attempts at political exploitation.

According to her, the evictions underway in Sandiara are part of a national policy of public order, road safety and land development decided and conducted exclusively by the central authorities of the State.

"The city council did not initiate, order, or execute these operations," the statement specifies, emphasizing that its role was limited to institutional support and facilitating dialogue with the affected populations.

The mayor's office deplores what it calls unfounded and misleading allegations from certain local political figures who are trying to shift responsibility for decisions made by the central government onto the mayor. Municipal authorities consider these accusations to be a politically motivated exploitation of a socially sensitive issue.

The municipality also points out that, well before these operations, it had undertaken a major project along the national highway, including paving the verges and installing modern canteens for the women vendors. According to the town hall, the objective of this project was to improve the working conditions, safety, and economic integration of these essential players in the local economy.

However, it acknowledges that new guidelines from central authorities now prohibit the establishment of food stalls along the national highway for reasons of safety and regulatory compliance. It affirms that it fully respects this decision, in accordance with its duty to uphold the law.

Faced with the situation, the mayor indicated that he had not remained passive. A relocation site, equipped with essential amenities such as water and electricity, has been made available to accommodate the affected women vendors. According to the mayor's office, this solution aims to guarantee safer, more sustainable, and economically viable conditions.

The Sandiara town hall calls on political actors to demonstrate greater responsibility and rigor in their statements, believing that political opportunism only perpetuates confusion and weakens social cohesion. It reaffirms its commitment to defending the interests of the population, supporting state decisions in a spirit of dialogue, and promoting humane and collaborative solutions for local development.
