Diogo-sur-Mer, Fass Boye, Mboro-sur-Mer : Cri du cœur des mareyeurs face à la hausse des taxes de salubrité sur leurs activités
Fishmongers in the Tivaouane department, particularly those in Diogo-sur-Mer, Mboro-sur-Mer and Fass Boye, are in a state of turmoil over the increase in health taxes imposed on their activities, which they consider excessive for deliveries to factories.
"This tax, initially set at 500 CFA francs, is now increased to 1,500 CFA francs for sales on the local market," denounces Abdoulaye Niang, president of the Fass Boye fishmongers' association and vice-president of the Union of fishmongers of Senegal (UMS).
These fish wholesalers, who are calling for a "downward revision," consider the application of a 1.5% levy per kilogram on deliveries exceeding two tons destined for processing plants to be "excessive." However, they deem this increase "reasonable."
Abdoulaye Niang and his colleagues are calling for a review of this tax, particularly for industrial deliveries. They are urging their supervising minister to intervene. Mr. Niang notes that professionals affiliated with CAPS and ANAMS support the measure, but points out that many fishmongers are still experiencing difficulties repaying the refrigerated trucks they obtained on credit from the General Delegation for Rapid Entrepreneurship (DER).
