Diourbel : le maître coranique, le piment et la moto Jakarta
Mr. Guèye is a Koranic teacher with a rather unusual profile. Aged 43, married and father of four, he was convicted by the Diourbel court of flagrant offenses for attempted robbery with violence.
The events took place in Touba, on the night of March 16-17. After soliciting the services of a motorcycle taxi driver, Ch. Ndiaye, for a night ride, the accused took advantage of a sandy area, at the moment when the driver had dismounted, to push his vehicle and carry out the act: he sprayed the driver's face with chili powder in order to seize the vehicle.
The victim's cries for help fortunately alerted a patrol from the special gendarmerie brigade that was driving nearby. Guèye was arrested. The gendarmes found the remains of the chili pepper used in the attack on him, thus confirming the young driver's accusations, reports L'Observateur, which attended the hearing.
In court, the newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias (GFM) reports, the defendant attempted to deny his confession, claiming it had been extracted under duress. This line of defense was rejected by the judge, as the defendant had initially justified his actions by citing financial difficulties. Following the prosecutor's recommendations, the judge sentenced him to two years in prison. The victim, having recovered his property, did not seek damages, the same source concludes.
