Djembéring : le défunt maire remplacé
The municipal council of Djembéring, in the south of the country, elected a new mayor on Thursday, following the death of Léopold Abba Diatta. Two candidates were in the running: Abdourahmane Diallo and Demba Niassy.
The latter, formerly the first deputy mayor, won the election with 26 votes to 19, thus becoming the new mayor. He is tasked with completing the remaining term of the deceased, which lasts just over 14 months, reports Libération.
As reported by the newspaper, Demba Niassy paid tribute to his predecessor. He stated that his priorities would be to complete the major projects already underway, including the bus station, the Cap Skirring market, and the municipal stadium. He also called on the municipal councilors to work together in unity and "hand in hand" for the development of the municipality.
