Drame à l’ex-CTO : Elle entre pour accoucher et ressort paralysée à vie, le récit glaçant de Mariama
On August 6, 2025, the irreparable struck. This day, which should have been one of life and joy, turned into tragedy. Mariama Diallo, a young Guinean mother, saw her destiny change forever the moment she gave birth. During her delivery at the Idrissa Pouye General Hospital in Grand Yoff (formerly CTO), an emergency cesarean section went horribly wrong. Anesthesia administered during the operation caused general paralysis, abruptly depriving her of all motor skills.
Her daughter, named Zahra, was thus torn from her mother's tenderness and arms from her very first moments. For eight long months, maternal affection remained a void, a heartbreaking absence.
Since then, Mariama's life has been a constant struggle. Between the walls of Fann Hospital in Dakar, where she receives medical treatment, and her home, every step has become an insurmountable obstacle. Exhausted by the endless back-and-forth, her future hangs by a thread.
In this ordeal, one light remains: that of Mamadou Diallo, her husband. He, who knew her as smiling, cheerful, and vibrant with life, refuses to let her succumb. "Mariama is now paralyzed, unconscious, unable to speak, and only eats through a feeding tube," he explained to Seneweb. But when Mariama's gaze wanders, her husband's fills with unwavering love. He prepares her, protects her, and accompanies her to every physiotherapy session and every appointment. He is her shield, her breath of fresh air, her dignity.
“There were times when hatred overwhelmed me. I wanted that anesthesiologist to pay. Then I remembered that everything is already written before we are even born. I understood that this ordeal was destiny. That is why I did not file a complaint,” Mr. Diallo resignedly said.
Today, to give Mariama a chance to recover, an appeal for solidarity has been launched. The Senegalese and Guinean communities are mobilizing to finance her medical evacuation to India. This same momentum is being sought to ensure her hospital care so that Mariama can finally hold her little Zahra in her arms again.
