Drame sur le fleuve Sénégal : une étudiante meurt en tentant de sauver une fillette à Dodel
According to initial reports, the youngest victim, identified by the initials DL, a first-grade student at the Bely Thiowi elementary school, had gone to the river to do laundry. For reasons still unclear, the girl got into difficulty in the river.
MB, a student at the National Open School (ENO) in Ndioum, witnessed the scene and immediately tried to help. In a display of courage and solidarity, the young student jumped into the water to save the child. Tragically, both victims were swept away by the current and drowned.
The tragedy has caused deep sorrow among the residents of Dodel and Ndioum, where Ms. Bâ was known as a serious and dedicated student. As for young DL, her classmates and teachers at the Bely Thiowi elementary school are in shock after this tragic loss.
The bodies of the two victims were taken to the morgue at the Ndioum Regional Hospital, where a large number of relatives and locals were seen throughout the day.
This tragedy once again brings to the forefront the issue of safety around the Senegal River, particularly for children and women who frequent the banks daily for domestic tasks.
