Droits humains au Sénégal 2024 : Les États-Unis livrent leur verdict
A recent U.S. State Department report on human rights in Senegal in 2024 highlights notable progress, but also persistent challenges. While the March presidential election was hailed as fair and the release of all political prisoners celebrated, restrictions on freedom of expression and abuses continue to be a concern. Steps forward welcomedThe year 2024 marked significant progress, with a presidential election free of irregularities and the release of all political prisoners by the end of the year. In the Casamance region, the scene of a weak insurgency, violence remained rare, a sign of relative stabilization.
Despite these advances, the report highlights serious violations: cases of cruel treatment, such as the death of a young man tortured in June in Dialadiang (investigation underway), and three deaths during demonstrations in February, the circumstances of which remain unclear. Arbitrary arrests of opponents and a former police commissioner for "insult" or "fake news" have also been reported.
Pressure on the press
Press freedom is under scrutiny. More than 25 journalists were attacked or arrested in February, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), which cites the cases of Kader Dia and Cheikh Yerim Seck, briefly detained in October for critical comments before their release. The government suspended Walfadjiri TV's license in February for "violent images," reinstating it six days later. Supporters of an opposition leader also attacked two reporters from Sans Limites in October.
Although the government has taken steps to punish abuses, impunity remains a challenge, clouding efforts.
This report paints a mixed picture: Senegal is making progress on the democratic path, but must strengthen the protection of fundamental freedoms and combat abuses to consolidate its achievements.

Les lois américaines sont quotidiennement torturées.
What about that ?

Les USA ne sont pas une référence en matière de droit de l'homme. Ils doivent même être parmi les derniers à en parler. Quand meme
