École William Ponty — site de Sébikhotane
Gathered in Toubab Dialaw last week, alumni of the William Ponty teacher training college reaffirmed their commitment to the historic Sébikhotane site and called for its restoration.
In a statement, they denounced the severe deterioration of this iconic location, now threatened by neglect, urban expansion, and the presence of prison infrastructure.
The alumni association members expressed regret over the authorities' slow response to the situation and emphasized the importance of preserving this major educational heritage site, which shaped many prominent African figures.
For them, safeguarding Sébikhotane is a matter of preserving memory and a commitment to future generations.
Association President Modou Ndiaye aims to transform the site into a cultural and educational hub, featuring an education museum, a training center, and a Pan-Africanism institute. The alumni are calling on authorities and partners to quickly mobilize around this project.
