The Bureau of the African Central Banks Association (ACBA) opened its ordinary meeting this Thursday in Dakar. The meeting aims to continue and deepen discussions on key issues.

Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, emphasized that the ABCA is now a key link in the regional integration process in Africa. He explained that this is why the BCEAO supports the association's ideals, which, he said, aim to promote monetary cooperation, financial stability, and economic development in Africa.

“The regular holding of bureau meetings is a perfect illustration of this collective will to achieve, through cooperation between central banks, greater monetary, banking and financial cooperation on a continental scale,” he said.

ABCA President Yvon Sana Bangui recalled that their meeting this Thursday is taking place in an international context marked by uncertainties, with persistent geopolitical, commercial and security tensions, which exacerbate the vulnerabilities of our economies.

“Despite this complex international environment, ABCA must continue to assert itself as a privileged framework for dialogue, learning and solidarity. Over the decades, it has been able to anticipate the major economic and financial changes on our continent. Whether it is strengthening monetary and macroprudential stability, promoting financial inclusion, supporting digitalization or raising Africa’s voice in international bodies,” he says.

The agenda for this meeting focuses primarily on evaluating the implementation of the decisions made on November 28th by the ABCA Board of Governors. The meeting will provide an opportunity for the Governors to review several points.

They will review the progress report on the implementation of the Monetary Cooperation Programme in Africa. They will also discuss the Terms of Reference of the Project Group on Monetary Policy and Integration, and provide an update on the process of establishing the African Monetary Institute (AMI), among other things.
