Exploitation forestière : Babou Khady Dieng élu président de l'Uncefs
The National Union of Forestry Cooperatives of Senegal (UNCEFS) held its General Assembly this Thursday. This meeting marks the completion of the process of renewing its governing bodies, which began in October 2025.
Djibril Diop, Chief of Staff to the Minister Secretary of State for Cooperatives and Rural Development, praised the role of territorial authorities and water and forestry services in overseeing the process, ensuring transparency and legitimacy.
Elected by consensus to the presidency, Babou Khady Dieng announced a strategic direction focused on the sustainable and regenerative management of forest resources. Reforestation, now systematically integrated into logging operations, has become a priority. Modernizing the sector will involve strengthening member training and introducing new management methods. The Union also reaffirmed its cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment and Ecological Transition.
Beyond environmental concerns, the Assembly highlighted social measures. Establishing a healthcare system for members is among the priority projects. Easier access to financing should support local cooperative projects. Finally, strengthening the sector's resources aims to give more weight to public policies related to food sovereignty.
In succeeding the outgoing board, Babou Khady Dieng and his team are showing their ambition to preserve the national forest heritage.
