Fatick : Plus de 15 t de drogues et produits prohibés incinérées par la brigade régionale des stupéfiants
The regional narcotics brigade of Fatick proceeded, this Thursday, to incinerate more than 15.9 tons of drugs, counterfeit medicines and various goods, for a total estimated value of 2.46 billion CFA francs.
The ceremony was held under the supervision of administrative and judicial authorities, including Governor Ngoné Cissé, who initiated the operation, and the prosecutor at the Fatick High Court, Amadou Lamine Mbengue.
Significant quantities destroyed
In total, the security forces incinerated 6,382.97 kg of drugs, 6,546 kg of counterfeit medicines, 3,000 kg of miscellaneous goods, for a cumulative value of 2,462,169,656 CFA francs.
A long and meticulous process
“This day marks the culmination of a long process that began with intelligence gathering, investigations, prosecutions, the investigation and finally the trial of those involved in trafficking prohibited products,” the prosecutor recalled.
Amadou Lamine Mbengue also called on the population to actively collaborate in denouncing traffickers, describing drugs as a major scourge for society.
A call for vigilance and responsibility
The prosecutor highlighted the strategic position of Fatick, a “transition zone”, where the defense and security forces must redouble their efforts to protect the mental health of the population.
For her part, Governor Ngoné Cissé urged young consumers to “come to their senses” in order to support state services in the fight against the proliferation of drugs.
“We are in a country under construction and we need a healthy youth. It is not through the use of these substances that they will be able to participate in the development of the country,” she stated.
She also mentioned the existence of official and unofficial crossing points, while commending the state's efforts to correct irregularities. "Those who use these substances go to great lengths to protect their products."
