Faux monnayage : les Douanes sénégalaises appellent à plus de vigilance à la veille de la Korité
Senegalese Customs urges the public to increase their vigilance in their transactions, particularly in markets, loumas and other informal trading locations.
As religious holidays and large gatherings approach, such as Eid al-Fitr (Korité), Gamou, Magal of Touba or the various ziarras, the authorities indicate that these periods are conducive to the introduction of counterfeit money into commercial circuits.
"Counterfeiters generally take advantage of these moments of high consumption and inattention to inject counterfeit bills into transactions," warn Senegalese Customs.
Since the beginning of 2026, more than 3 billion CFA francs in counterfeit banknotes have been withdrawn from circulation, and more than 50 billion over the past five years. However, the authorities remind the public that there is no such thing as zero risk.
They therefore call on citizens to actively participate in the fight against counterfeiting, by being vigilant and reporting any anomalies to the nearest customs units.
