Féminicide à Keur Massar : Les organisations féministes réclament justice pour Mariama Keita
Senegalese feminist organizations strongly condemn the murder of 54-year-old Mariama Keita, killed by her husband in Keur Massar. They demand justice and concrete measures to combat femicide and patriarchal violence.
Indeed, this latest tragic death of a mother of seven has sparked outrage among feminist organizations in Senegal. Murdered by her husband, B. Fall, Mariama had been a victim of domestic violence for several years, according to the Collective of Feminists of Senegal, JGEN Senegal, ACE, Senegal Feminist Action, and AMFE Senegal.
They condemn the trivialization of this crime by society and certain media outlets that refer to it as a "domestic tragedy" or a "simple argument." "This femicide is not a domestic accident. It is not a simple argument. It is a political crime against all women," they assert.
These organizations are calling on the authorities to launch a national campaign against patriarchal violence, to officially recognize femicide in the Senegalese Penal Code, and to establish a national femicide counter to measure the scale of the phenomenon and strengthen investigations.
"B. Fall allowed himself to kill his wife because he believed he could escape any punishment. We refuse to let the patriarchy disguise this murder as a simple domestic accident," the statement emphasizes.
These organizations demand justice for Mariama Keita and reiterate the urgent need to act to protect all Senegalese women and girls in the face of the surge in femicides. The year 2025 has already seen fifteen high-profile femicides, making it a particularly dark period for women's rights in the country.
