Golf-Sud : des jeunes attaquent des policiers pour libérer cinq dealers, deux agents blessés et deux coups de feu tirés
A security operation at the Golf-Sud Thursday market nearly turned into a tragedy. After the arrest of five drug dealers in possession of marijuana, a group of young people violently attacked officers from the Golf-Sud district police station's Criminal Investigation Brigade, under the command of Commissioner Mame Arona Ba, in an attempt to free them. Two officers were injured, and two shots were fired into the air to disperse the assailants.
Five drug dealers caught red-handed at the market on Thursday
On Friday, May 8, 2026, officers from the Golf-Sud Research Brigade conducted a security operation in the area. At the market on Thursday, five individuals were apprehended in possession of 125 grams of marijuana and immediately subdued by the officers. The suspects were identified as follows.
I. Faye, 20 years old, is a cart driver and lives in Guédiawaye. B. Lo, 21 years old, is also a cart driver and lives in Guédiawaye. SSM Diop, 19 years old, is a cart driver and lives in Guédiawaye. A. Diallo, 24 years old, is a painter and lives in Guédiawaye. Finally, T. Thiam, 18 years old, is a student and lives in Guédiawaye.
A hostile crowd attacks the police
While officers waited for the transport vehicle, a group of young people suddenly intervened, attempting to abduct the five detainees. The altercation quickly escalated. The assailants threw stones and used a stainless steel drill bit to strike the police officers. Two officers were injured in the melee. Officer A. Sané was hit in the lower part of his nose, while his colleague Y. Bakhoum was injured in the foot, according to Seneweb sources. Faced with the violence of the attack and to prevent the situation from deteriorating further, the police fired two shots into the air. The warnings had the desired effect, and the assailants dispersed.
The injured were evacuated, the dealers were taken into custody.
The two injured officers were taken to Dalal Jamm Hospital for treatment. They will be required to provide medical certificates as part of the legal process. The five drug dealers were taken into custody for possession and collective use of marijuana, resisting arrest, and assaulting police officers in the performance of their duties. The seized drugs and the hair clip were confiscated for the purposes of the investigation. Prosecutor Saliou Dicko has been informed of the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
