The National Brigade for Combating Piracy and Counterfeiting (BNLPC) of the police, in collaboration with the Senegalese Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (ARP), conducted a large-scale operation on Wednesday, November 5th, at the Bou Bess market in Guédiawaye. This operation is part of the ongoing fight against the illicit sale of counterfeit medicines. Following the operation, eight illegal sales points were dismantled.
Sensing the arrival of law enforcement, the vendors fled, abandoning their shops and various belongings. A significant quantity of pharmaceutical products was seized, covering 14 therapeutic classes, including corticosteroids, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, antiparasitics, anabolic steroids, anticancer drugs, antimalarials, antifungals, analgesics, antihistamines, tetanus antitoxins, hemorrhoid treatments, aphrodisiacs, and dietary supplements.
According to estimates provided by our sources, the total value of the seized medicines amounts to approximately 50 million CFA francs.
This joint operation illustrates the determination of the authorities to stem the illegal trade in pharmaceutical products, a scourge with serious health consequences for the population.
