The Thiès court of flagrant offenses sentenced C. Sow, a 23-year-old metalworker, to four years in prison on Wednesday, March 18, for acts of violence against an ascendant and intentional assault and battery.
The defendant is accused of violently assaulting his biological mother, A. Bâ, at the family home located in the Keur Ablaye Yakhine neighborhood. According to the case file, the incident dates back to February 2026. On that day, C. Sow burst into his parents' home, behaving aggressively in the presence of his father's guests.
Ordered to leave, he hurled insults at his father before turning on his younger brother, who was trying to calm him down. His mother, who intervened to defuse the situation, was then violently attacked herself. The defendant punched her several times in the face, causing her to lose a tooth.
Taken to the regional hospital in Thiès, the victim was issued a medical certificate stating a temporary incapacity for work (ITT) of 25 days. She subsequently filed a complaint, leading to the arrest of her son and his placement in pretrial detention.
In court, C. Sow contested the charges, claiming he had never hit his mother. He admitted to drinking alcohol but denied using drugs. For her part, the victim described her son as a violent and repeat offender, stating that he had been involved with the prison system since adolescence. She also expressed her fears regarding the death threats he allegedly made regularly against the family.
The defendant's father, for his part, recalled having recently filed a complaint against his son for theft, death threats and possession of a bladed weapon, highlighting a recurring climate of violence within the home.
Believing the facts to be established, the public prosecutor had requested a five-year prison sentence. The court ultimately found C. Sow guilty and sentenced him to four years in prison.
