« Il n’était pas au front, il n’avait que 20 ans » : les tristes témoignages sur l’étudiant Abdoulaye Ba tué
Abdoulaye Ba, a second-year dental surgery (oncology) student, was the hope of an entire family. The announcement of his death yesterday on the grounds of Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) shattered more than a dream; it destroyed lives.
At only 20 years old, Abdoulaye Ba was the hope of a family prematurely deprived of a parent's affection. Fatherless, the young student was the right-hand man of his widowed mother, a millet porridge vendor. According to his relatives, Abdoulaye's mother placed all her hopes in her children, especially Abdoulaye (her only son) and his twin sisters, who are still children.
According to witnesses, Abdoulaye Ba was not even at the forefront during the student protest on February 9th.
“He was in his room because he couldn’t leave the social campus, which had been illegally occupied by law enforcement. Having received orders to break into the students’ rooms, they found him there, defenseless, before savagely torturing him and releasing him severely injured. Taken to the COUD medical service with significant blood loss, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries,” reports the Student Association of the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry (FMPO), which intends to follow the case closely to determine responsibility.
