Insolite : Après avoir dépouillé une passagère à Dahra, il remonte dans le même bus à Linguère
A mechanic based in Pikine has been remanded in custody by the prosecutor's representative at the Linguère court. His modus operandi involved robbing passengers on public buses before disappearing. But fate intervened.
It all begins aboard a public bus leaving Dakar. Among the passengers is I. Kanouté, a mechanic from Bakel. Taking advantage of the general inattention during the journey, the man spots his target.
It was during a stopover in Dahra Djolof that the suspect, taking advantage of a moment of inattention from a passenger (an executive assistant at ISEP (Higher Institute of Professional Education) in the North), stole her bag. Inside: a work computer, a mobile phone and a pouch containing money.
Then, I. Kanouté gets out of the vehicle hastily well before its initial destination, then boards another means of transport to reach Linguère.
Meanwhile, the victim noticed the theft and realized that only this passenger had mysteriously left the bus. She then quickly filed a report with the Dahra Djolof gendarmerie brigade.
The suspect trapped by chance
The woman's bus continued its journey to Linguère, where the driver made another technical stop to allow the passengers to rest. It was there that fate intervened.
Believing he had lost his victims, I. Kanouté, who was trying to reach Bakel, approached the same bus. After negotiating the fare with the apprentice driver, he boarded. Unfortunately for him, his face did not go unnoticed. Before the driver even started moving again, several passengers recognized him immediately.
Having been caught, he tried to flee. But he was quickly apprehended and subdued by the prompt reaction of the passengers and bystanders. A search revealed the mobile phone and work computer of the executive assistant on his person.
Handed over to the men of the urban police station of Linguère, I. Kanouté was placed in custody for theft.
At the end of the investigation, the suspected thief was brought before the prosecutor's delegate at the Linguère district court, who placed him under a detention order.
