Journée internationale des droits des femmes : à Nder, Maimouna Dieye plaide pour une justice économique en faveur des femmes

As part of the celebration of International Women's Day, Senegal, like many countries in the international community, is organizing a National Week of Activities under the theme: "Operationalizing the Economic and Social Recovery Plan (PRES) – JUBBANTI KOOM: Women in Action at the Grassroots Level." On this occasion, the Minister of Women and Solidarity, Maimouna Dieye, has embarked on a national tour across the country's various regions and eight territorial hubs.

In the Dagana department, the caravan stopped in the renowned village of Nder, a place of great historical significance where the Talatay Nder memorial is commemorated, a symbol of the courage and resistance of the women of Walo. This visit is part of an effort to encourage women to actively participate in discussions and initiatives related to the implementation of the JUBBANTI KOOM program, a cornerstone of the economic and social recovery plan.

Through this tour, the ministry aims to foster dialogue with grassroots women in order to identify their key contributions and actions in different regions. The objective is to strengthen their involvement in the country's economic and social development policies.

During her address, Minister Maimouna Dieye announced significant measures to improve women's access to financing and support their economic empowerment. "A fund of one hundred million CFA francs has been allocated to improve access to financing. Following discussions with the Minister of Justice, an additional fifty million francs has been granted, bringing the total amount to one hundred and fifty million francs for the department," she stated.

The minister used this platform to launch a solemn appeal for economic justice that guarantees women equitable access to resources, entrepreneurship, and financing. According to her, the ministry already has dedicated programs and appropriate financing mechanisms in place to support women's initiatives.

She also emphasized the strategic role of women in economic recovery and in consolidating the country's food sovereignty. According to Maimouna Dieye, the northern region, particularly the Walo area, has considerable potential to promote women's economic empowerment, thanks to the richness of its ecosystem and its agricultural opportunities.

The minister also commended the support of the ministry's partners in implementing these programs. She specifically thanked UN Women, a strategic partner committed to promoting and protecting the rights of women and girls in Senegal.

Through this national caravan, the authorities intend to strengthen the participation of women in development policies and to enhance their central role in the economic and social transformation of Senegal.
