Kaolack : Les transporteurs routiers en grève le 29 avril

The Federation of Road Transport Unions of Senegal met today at the Kaolack Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture. Wearing red armbands, its members announced a 72-hour strike beginning at midnight on March 29, 2026. This action is to denounce what they consider unfair competition and traffic restrictions, while the authorities remain inactive.

In addition to this, the technical visit procedures are considered restrictive, particularly their centralization in Dakar.

The federation is calling on its members to strictly adhere to the strike order until their demands are met or a dialogue is opened with the government. According to General Secretary Fallou Samb, "We filed a strike notice covering several points, such as the nighttime driving ban, which is costing us a lot of money. In addition, 6,886 mini Toyota Yass vehicles, including some 19-seaters, have been summoned to Dakar for their mandatory technical inspections. We consider this unacceptable, as it's impossible to bring all the vehicles together in Dakar. Those of us in Dakar know that the inspections take two or three days. Adding 6,686 vehicles to that will make it even more difficult."

"As for the ban on driving at night, it's been three years, but if there were fair measures, all vehicles should be banned from doing night transport," the union representative protested.

The Federation of Road Transport Unions of Senegal advocates for the general application of laws and regulations in the sector. "In Senegal, we see drivers with category P transport vehicles. We cannot understand someone operating a taxi with a private vehicle that doesn't have a license. Add to that our fellow truck drivers who live in insecurity along the Dakar-Bamako corridor. It is for these reasons, among others, that the federation met in Kaolack to fight against these constraints plaguing the transport sector," concluded Mr. Samb.
