Karang : 49 kg de yamba, une machette et un berger, l'OCRTIS frappe un grand coup en forêt
On the night of March 2, 2026, at around 10:30 p.m., members of the Fatick Regional Narcotics Brigade, under the OCRTIS, made a large seizure of Indian hemp in the forest of the village of Karang-Ba, in Karang.
The operation followed a report of a group of couriers who had left a neighbouring country with a large quantity of drugs, intended to be brought into Senegalese territory through unofficial channels.
A sting operation set up along one of their usual routes allowed the group to be located and one of its four members to be apprehended. The other three fled, abandoning their packages at the scene.
The suspect, S. Dia, 25, a shepherd residing in Dahra Djoloff, was apprehended in possession of a 9 kg bag of marijuana. Under questioning, he stated that he and a man named Ibrahima, also known as Loukakou, had been recruited by Amadou Bessel, the group's leader who is currently at large, to transport the drugs for 5,000 CFA francs per kilogram. He added that the drugs belonged to a man named Mamadou, who lives in Kaffrine, according to Seneweb sources.
According to his statements, the three other packages weighing 16 kg, 13 kg and 11 kg respectively were carried by Amadou Bessel, Ibrahima alias Loukakou and another Ibrahima, without further details.
A search of the suspect revealed that he was carrying a machete and an Itel mobile phone. In total, the 49 kg of cannabis seized represents a significant haul for the police.
S. Dia was taken into custody after being informed of his right to legal counsel. The search continues actively for the three accomplices who are still at large.
