Kédougou : Des braqueurs neutralisés par la gendarmerie à Wakilaré
On August 18, around 6 p.m., five armed men attacked small-scale gold miners on the road linking the Djiédj gold mining site to the village of Wakilaré. The criminals stole 30g of raw gold—estimated at 1.5 million CFA francs—as well as a silver bracelet, a cell phone, and other belongings.
Immediately alerted, the Kédougou territorial brigade deployed its men, supported by the new research section recently inaugurated by the Minister of the Armed Forces. Thanks to a local investigation and digital forensic techniques, the suspects were identified as early as Friday, August 22.
The gendarmes then carried out the first arrests and searches. Three individuals were arrested, while their accomplices are actively being sought.
The investigation revealed that this gang was also involved in the trafficking of Indian hemp and the illegal sale of pharmaceutical products, including tramadol. The victims identified their attackers based on their clothing. The three arrested men were brought before the Kédougou prosecutor's office this Wednesday after their police custody.
