Kédougou en ordre de marche pour le 4 Avril : Un défilé d’envergure sous le signe de la cohésion nationale
With just days to go before Senegal's Independence Day celebrations, the Kédougou region is working tirelessly to put on a parade worthy of the occasion. In this southeastern part of the country, administrative authorities, defense forces, and local residents are joining forces to make April 4th a moment of collective pride and national unity.
A total of 1,350 participants, both civilian and military, are expected to take part in the traditional parade. This significant turnout demonstrates the commitment of local stakeholders to celebrate this anniversary of Senegal's accession to international sovereignty in a grand manner.
Preparations are well underway
On the ground, rehearsals have been in full swing for several weeks. Lieutenant Colonel Moussa Diouf, commander of the 34th Infantry Battalion, is reassuring about the level of organization. According to him, all arrangements are being finalized to ensure a smooth, safe, and coordinated parade.
The civilian component alone will mobilize 876 participants. They come from 25 schools, youth movements, and also from communities in the Bassari region, known for their rich cultural heritage. This diversity promises a vibrant parade, blending discipline, creativity, and the expression of identity.
A strong mobilization of the security forces
On the armed forces side, 477 soldiers will march on foot, illustrating the rigor and discipline of the institution. This will be complemented by a motorized parade involving 56 units, further enhancing the spectacular nature of the event.
Military authorities assure that all security and logistical measures are in place to guarantee the smooth running of the festivities. The objective is clear: to offer the public a celebration that is festive, orderly, and secure.
The media called upon to play their part
Beyond the ceremonial aspect, the military command is also counting on the involvement of the media. The media are encouraged to relay messages of peace, solidarity, and social cohesion, in a context where living together remains a major challenge.
Looking ahead to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games
This mobilization around April 4th is also part of a broader movement. The army has reaffirmed its commitment to local youth, particularly in light of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. Logistical support has been announced to assist activities planned in the Kédougou region, thus strengthening the involvement of the defense forces in socio-sporting development.
In Kédougou, all eyes are now on April 4th. Between patriotic fervor and general mobilization, the region is preparing to vibrate to the rhythm of a celebration that promises to be both solemn and festive.
