Keur Ndiaye Lô : un soudeur arrêté pour tentative de vol d’un transformateur de la Senelec
A metal welder with the initials G. Ndao was brought before Prosecutor Cheikh Diakhoumpa, head of the Rufisque prosecutor's office, on Monday for attempted theft of a transformer belonging to Senelec (the national electricity company). His arrest followed a sting operation by the Sangalkam Territorial Brigade. Five of his accomplices are actively being sought.
On the night of May 6-7, 2026, G. Ndao and his five accomplices left Diamniadio with a very specific objective: to seize the transformer installed in a Senelec electrical substation in Keur Ndiaye Lô. The group managed to break down the door of the substation and began dismantling the transformer, estimated to be worth several million CFA francs. Their crime had an immediate consequence: the electricity supply was abruptly cut off throughout the entire area.
The power outage and intrusion did not go unnoticed. A neighborhood representative from Keur Ndiaye Lô immediately alerted the Sangalkam Territorial Brigade, under the command of Chief Warrant Officer Mamadou Sow.
The gendarmes immediately went to the scene. Caught in the act, the perpetrators fled. A chase ensued. G. Ndao was caught and arrested by the gendarmes, then taken to the station. His five accomplices managed to escape and are actively being sought, according to sources close to Seneweb.
Senelec is filing a civil suit
When questioned about the events, G. Ndao admitted to the acts and provided details of the operation. Senelec filed a complaint to become a civil party in the case. Following the investigation, the suspected thief was brought before Prosecutor Cheikh Diakhoumpa, head of the Rufisque prosecutor's office. The Sangalkam territorial brigade is actively continuing its search to apprehend the five fugitives.
