On the eve of Korité, authorities are seeking to reassure the public regarding the availability of essential goods. According to Yassine Birame Diop, deputy head of the regional trade department in Dakar, markets are sufficiently stocked with basic necessities.
“The market is well supplied with onions, potatoes, and oil. These are the main foodstuffs in demand during this festive period, and they are available in sufficient quantities,” she stated in a video sent to Seneweb on Thursday, March 19, 2026. She also emphasized that sugar, another highly sought-after product, is readily available at the market stalls.
Regarding prices, Ms. Diop assures that the measures set by the State are generally respected. "The prices set by the State are indeed being respected. There may be some discrepancies, but our services are monitoring them," she explains, warning that penalties are in place for any violations.
Moreover, the enforcement services have strengthened their presence on the ground. "We have intensified our monitoring and are constantly tracking the market," she insisted, adding that fines vary "depending on the nature of the infraction and the size of the business."
