For three long years, Waly Diouf has lived with a suffering that is eating away at his body and spirit. His abnormally bloated stomach conceals a hard lump that prevents him from leading a normal life. At the onset of his illness, this father of a family turned to traditional healers in the hope of regaining his health. However, the decoctions of roots and bark only worsened his condition. From one consultation to the next, he went to the regional hospital in Fatick before being referred to Mbour.
A serious diagnosis and an unaffordable cost
Despite some initial treatment that provided slight relief, doctors ultimately recommended surgery at Fann Hospital. The cost of the operation is estimated at 3.5 million CFA francs, an impossible sum for this man, already exhausted by successive medical expenses. To try and get treatment, Waly Diouf sacrificed everything, selling his cattle, goats, and even his chickens. Although his neighbors and relatives have contributed generously, he now has almost nothing left but the hope of a gesture of solidarity.
Originally from the village of Gadiack, in the commune of Diarère, Waly is making a heartfelt appeal for help. In his thirties, he is married and the father of five children—three daughters and two sons—who are deeply affected by his health condition. In the family home, worry and helplessness have replaced laughter. Faced with this ordeal, Waly Diouf still hopes that a kind hand will finally allow him to regain his health and remain with his family.
