The Federation of Road Transport Unions of Senegal announced on Friday the lifting of the strike order observed for about ten days, following consultations with state authorities.
This decision follows a meeting with the Ministers of the Interior and Land Transport, as well as an audience granted late Thursday evening by the President of the Republic to Alassane Ndoye, President of the Federation. The union's Secretary General, Fallou Samb, spoke of significant progress resulting from the dialogue with the authorities, thus paving the way for a gradual resumption of activities in the transport sector.
Among the measures announced, authorities gave instructions for the resumption of nighttime travel, a major demand of transport operators. Furthermore, efforts will be made to reduce road harassment, with checkpoints limited to three on the main corridors. The other measures mentioned are expected to be implemented gradually over the medium and long term.
This lifting of the strike thus marks an important step towards the normalization of the sector, after several days of disruptions which severely impacted the mobility of users across the country.
