LONASE : le réseau physique au cœur d'une stratégie de transformation face au digital
Faced with the rise of digital technology, LONASE is undertaking a strategic review with its retailers to modernize its physical network and preserve thousands of jobs. Gathering in a residential workshop, the public company's managers launched a broad consultation on the future of the local network, which is currently weakened by the digitalization of gaming.

At the initiative of the Director General, Dr. Toussaint Manga, this meeting aims to provide a forum for in-depth discussions to diagnose the challenges on the ground and define solutions adapted to a rapidly changing environment. Indeed, the digital transformation is reshaping the landscape: increasingly, bettors are turning to online platforms, accessible from home and supported by mobile payment solutions. This shift in usage is leading to a decline in foot traffic at physical kiosks and agencies, with a direct impact on vendors' revenue.
“We are here to discuss the future we will give to the physical network, which is the primary network for gaming operations in Senegal. Over time, we are now facing a shift in the commercial offering from physical to digital. This transition has an impact on the revenues of vendors who find themselves with reduced resources in the face of competition from digitalization,” acknowledged Dr. Toussaint Manga.
Maintaining the balance between physical and digital
Faced with this situation, management aims to find a balance between the two models in order to preserve the physical network, considered a strategic pillar. Among the avenues being explored are the integration of digital products directly into points of sale, the diversification of offerings beyond horse racing and the lottery, the transformation of kiosks into true modern gaming spaces, and the development of new activities such as virtual games.

The goal is to make the physical network more attractive and competitive while meeting new consumer expectations. Beyond economic considerations, the reform has a strong social dimension. The network, largely composed of independent salespeople, represents a vital source of income for many households. With an estimated average age of 44, the issue of succession planning and retirement support is also being addressed by management, which is considering specific measures to support employees nearing the end of their careers.
This workshop brings together all stakeholders, including association presidents, bettors' representatives, private retail outlet operators, and internal management. The general management considers this participatory approach essential for building a more modern and sustainable network. Following the workshop, concrete measures are expected to be announced to revitalize the sector. The optimistic director general praised the partners' commitment: "You are the past, present, and future of LONASE."
