Louga: Les populations de Diélerou Sylla s’opposent au projet de lotissement du maire
Tensions are running high between the residents of Diélérou Sylla and their mayor. A new 3-hectare housing development project is at the heart of this land dispute.
According to Sidy Sylla, coordinator of "and taxawou Diélérou", notables of the commune, in concert with the mayor, decided to make a housing development without the consent of the people.
Mr. Sylla indicated that no public hearing had been held to inform the local population about this land subdivision project.
"Municipal councilors of the commune and the commission of notables have been manipulated by the mayor to seize our land, we are ready to leave our lives on this site which belongs to us," warns Sidy Sylla.
The local people disavow this committee of notables which was tasked with preserving the village lands and call on the mayor to cancel his project.
“We will never accept our land being sold off cheaply. We call on the Head of State and his Prime Minister, as well as the local authorities, to cancel this 2-hectare housing development project,” Mr. Sylla warned. The residents of Diélèrou Sylla, wearing red armbands, occupied the site to demand the cancellation of the housing development project.
Speaking to the local press, they threatened to escalate their actions if their concerns were not met.
