Lutte contre l’orpaillage clandestin : coup de filet du GARSI 2 sur la Falémé
A major operation to dismantle illegal gold mining sites was carried out on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, by members of GARSI 2 based in Moussala. The operation, which took place between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., targeted illegal installations located on the Falémé River, near the village of Sansamba.
According to security sources, this raid followed a specific intelligence report indicating the use of dredges for the illegal mining of gold in the area. This practice is particularly harmful to the environment and is regularly denounced by the authorities.
On the ground, security forces conducted a large-scale operation to dismantle equipment used by illegal gold miners. The operation resulted in the seizure of various items, including two motor pumps, two jackhammers, a generator, and a small solar panel.
Even more significantly, no fewer than 32 dredges were destroyed on site, marking a major blow to the networks involved in this illegal activity.
This operation is part of the intensified fight against illegal gold mining in the region, a phenomenon that continues to grow despite numerous awareness campaigns and enforcement efforts. The authorities reaffirm their commitment to continuing these operations in order to preserve natural resources and guarantee the safety of local populations.
