Madina Baffé : les populations dénoncent l’injustice dans le recrutement à la mine de BOTO (Managem)
A protest march was organized in Madina Baffé by young people and local dignitaries to denounce what they consider to be opaque and discriminatory management of employment opportunities within the mining company Managem.
The protesters led by Souleymane Samoura, Fodé Alpha Tandian and Taha Camara, wanted, through this peaceful mobilization, to draw the attention of local and national authorities to the growing discontent of the local populations.
A growing sense of marginalization
Young people from Madina Baffé and surrounding villages say they feel excluded from recruitment and deprived of the economic benefits generated by mining.
According to them, the current hiring policy favors workers from elsewhere, to the detriment of local residents directly impacted by the mine's activities. "We are simply demanding justice and fairness," chanted the protesters, determined to make their voices heard in a climate of latent social tension.
A strong call for respect for local content
Beyond the issue of employment, the protesters are calling on the Managem group to effectively implement local content, a requirement that is nevertheless enshrined in Senegalese mining legislation.
They accuse the company of using external service providers, thus excluding local businesses and hampering the region's economic development.
For local residents, respecting local content is not only a legal imperative, but also a lever for community development, guaranteeing sustainable jobs and a fair redistribution of profits from mining.
Social responsibility
Finally, the people of Madina Baffé urge the administrative authorities and the heads of Managem to open a frank and inclusive dialogue, in order to find fair and lasting solutions to the frustrations expressed.
They point out that social peace in mining areas depends closely on respecting social commitments made to local communities.
