Mal de ventre fatal : Le routier condamné après avoir laissé un mineur "droiter le camion"
Moussa Dieng, a truck driver, was tried and found guilty by the Mbour High Court for handing over the driving of his truck to his underage apprentice. He was given a one-month suspended prison sentence.
Presented in the dock, the defendant justified his actions by saying he suffered from severe stomach pains. In his own words, he asked his young apprentice to "straighten the truck" – that is, to keep it in a straight line – while he stopped to relieve himself.
This action, although motivated by a physical emergency, was described as "irresponsible" and constitutes a traffic violation.
Sincere Regrets and a Plea for Clemency
Mr. Dieng admitted the facts in full and expressed his deep regret. His lawyer, Pape Demba Sène, pleaded for leniency. He emphasized his client's clean criminal record, stressing that he had acted out of pain and not out of intentional negligence. "This is a cause of public danger, and he sincerely regrets it. Give him a second chance," the defense urged.
The court took into account the mitigating circumstances presented by the defense. However, recalling the seriousness of the offense and the public danger posed, it sentenced Moussa Dieng to one month in prison, suspended. The court clarified that this sentence was intended primarily as a warning.
