Manifestations socio-politiques 2021-2024 au Sénégal : le verdict de Maître Diockou
Justice must be done and it will be done. This is the conviction of Me Pape Mamaille Diockou, lawyer at the French Bar and president of the Senegal Nafa movement. "Justice will be done whatever happens in Senegal, a country governed by the rule of law. Justice has its own pace," said the lawyer, who believes that understanding and patience are required.
Mr. Pape Mamaille Diockou was speaking during the medical consultation days, on the occasion of the regional phases of the Regional Organization for the Management of Mass Activities (ORGAM) of Ziguinchor, in Adéane.
He understands the impatience of some Senegalese people and especially of the direct and indirect victims of the socio-political demonstrations from 2021 to 2024.
"Justice has its own rhythm [...]. Neither a minister nor a politician can determine the damage and the quantum of the damage. Only the judge can do that. And whatever debate we have, the debate will eventually end up before the courts to deliver justice," declared the lawyer at the French bar.
Mr. Diockou, however, alludes to one of the principles of law: the speed of justice. However, the lawyer points out that saying speed doesn't mean going overboard. Ultimately, for Mr. Diockou, we must find the right balance. He calls on the State on this point, to find the means to hear the victims of the violence that took place between 2012 and 2024.
