Matam : Le Khalife de Doumga Wouro Alpha appelle à une union sacrée autour des Douanes
The Senegalese Customs Ramadan Caravan 2026 made a stop this Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Doumga Wouro Alpha. This renowned center of knowledge and integrity, located in the commune of Bokidiawé (Matam region), welcomed the delegation from the Directorate General of Customs (DGD) in an atmosphere of fervor and respect.
The team was received by Khalif Thierno Mohamadou Lamine Ly. At 95 years old, this scholar remains at the forefront of the fight for religious education, national cohesion, and the preservation of ancestral values. A standard-bearer for the marabouts of Fouta and a continuator of the work of his father, the revered Sheikh Youma Kane Ly, he leads an organization uniting the most prominent dignitaries of the region, from Matam to Podor.
A strong plea for customs action
Lieutenant-Colonel Mouhamed Niang, Head of the Communication and Public Relations Division (DCRP) and head of delegation, discovered in the Khalif a valuable ally with a keen understanding of customs issues.
The marabout delivered a powerful message on civic responsibility: “No citizen should wait to be prohibited from using dangerous products. They must protect themselves, because the consequences of prohibited substances on their health compel them to do so. Faced with a service like Customs, whose mission is to protect them, citizens have a duty to cooperate,” declared Thierno Mohamadou Lamine Ly.
The scholar also emphasized the need to protect local industry from unfair competition, describing the customs officer's profession as "noble" and essential for the country's economic survival. He concluded with a solemn appeal to all religious communities to rally in support of the Customs Administration.
Speaking on behalf of the Director General of Customs, Babacar Mbaye, Lieutenant-Colonel Mouhamed Niang warmly thanked the Khalif for his selfless commitment. He reiterated the Customs Administration's commitment to listening to opinion leaders to ensure the smooth and effective execution of its core missions.
The Head of the DCRP finally clarified that the material support provided by Customs is in line with the spirit of Ramadan, aiming to support the Khalif in taking care of the daaras and people in need through actions of solidarity and mutual aid.
The meeting was attended by the Brigade Chiefs of Ourossogui and the Gourel Oumar Ly Post, representing the Matam Subdivision and the Northern Regional Directorate.
