In Mbour, A. Diallo, a caterer at a fast-food restaurant, is facing serious charges. He is being prosecuted for the alleged rape of R. Seck, a young woman with a mental disability. The events reportedly took place on June 26, while the population was celebrating Senegal's 5-0 victory over Iraq, according to L'Observateur.
Taking advantage of the general euphoria, the newspaper continues, the accused allegedly left his workplace on his motorcycle to drive the victim to his home, where he allegedly forced her to have sexual relations, before giving her 1,500 CFA francs and asking her to keep quiet.
Back home, the young woman recounted the events to her grandmother, who took her to a gynecologist. The medical examination revealed injuries consistent with sexual abuse, leading to a formal complaint. In court, A. Diallo denied the accusations. However, the newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias concluded that his employer confirmed he had left his post without authorization, and witnesses reportedly saw him leave with the complainant. The prosecutor requested a five-year prison sentence, while the plaintiff is seeking one million CFA francs in damages.
The verdict is scheduled for July 7th.
