Mbour : L'étrange découverte de 26 animaux morts, dont 24 vautours décapités et un oiseau du Muséum de Paris
A gruesome discovery has been reported in the district commune of Fissel, in the department of Mbour, where a donkey, twenty-four vultures and a crow were found dead in disturbing circumstances, with clues suggesting suspicions of mystical practices.
The local police brigade of Fissel, under the jurisdiction of the Mbour gendarmerie company, was alerted on March 8, 2026 around 1 p.m. to the presence of a dead donkey surrounded by several lifeless vultures near the village of Khaoul Godaguène.
According to initial findings of the investigation, the donkey's owner, ST, 58, a farmer, explained that the animal had left the village on Thursday, March 5th, to go to the weekly market in Mbafaye, pulling a cart with another donkey. The cart was driven by his nephew, KT, 17, a cart driver. On the return journey, the driver realized that one of the donkeys could no longer continue. He then left the animal where it was and continued on to the village with the other donkey.
Later, he returned to retrieve the sick donkey, but it collapsed again on the way, unable to move. The young carter finally returned to the village, leaving it there. On Friday, March 6th, around 9:00 AM, KT went back to the spot and found the animal still alive but lying down. After watering his garden, he returned around noon and discovered that the donkey was dead. He then informed his uncle, the owner.
Intriguing beheadings
It wasn't until Sunday, March 8th, that he learned the donkey's carcass had attracted numerous scavengers. At the scene, twenty-four vultures and a crow were found dead around the animal. Investigators also noted that the vultures' heads had been severed and removed, a detail that, according to Seneweb sources, fuels strong suspicions of mystical practices.
Another intriguing fact was noted: one of the vultures wore two collars on its legs, bearing the inscriptions “JKK” and “TY7350 DIS MUSEUM – PARIS”, suggesting that it might be a bird being tracked or studied by scientists.
The poisoning theory
Alerted, members of the Fissel local police brigade went to the scene accompanied by a veterinary technician. The Ndiaganiao Forestry, Environment, and Hygiene services were also mobilized. After assessing the situation, the hygiene services disinfected the area, while the Forestry agents retrieved the collars found on the vulture to allow for possible species identification.
According to the veterinary technician present at the scene, an autopsy of the donkey could not be performed due to the advanced state of decomposition of the carcass. However, he favors the theory of poisoning, which could explain the deaths of the vultures and the crow that had apparently fed on the animal.
With the support of local residents, the remains of the donkey, vultures, and crow were buried on site under the supervision of sanitation workers and investigators. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of these deaths and, in particular, to shed light on the decapitation and disappearance of the vultures' heads, an act that has particularly puzzled the authorities.
