Mbour : Quand les femmes du Tribunal tendent la main aux détenues de la MAC

On the sidelines of International Women's Day, the women of the Mbour High Court (TGI) chose to give this celebration a special meaning. Beyond speeches and symbolic ceremonies, they took concrete action to show solidarity with the women detained at the Mbour Prison.

Gathered with judicial authorities, the court staff organized a donation drive to improve, even if only modestly, the daily lives of incarcerated women. Sanitary napkins, clothing, and hygiene products were distributed to the inmates in a spirit of solidarity and respect for human dignity. Through this event, the women of the Mbour High Court sought to emphasize that justice is not limited to punishment, but also encompasses a human dimension based on fairness and compassion.

A commitment welcomed by the judicial hierarchy

On behalf of her colleagues, Ndeye Oumy Diallo, an administrative officer in the prosecutor's office, expressed her gratitude for the support of the judicial authorities, particularly the Public Prosecutor. She also thanked all those involved in the court system, from the presiding judge to the court clerks and the lawyers. She emphasized that the celebration of March 8th should not be limited to a purely festive occasion.

“As women, we couldn’t miss such an opportunity without showing our solidarity. That’s why we raised funds to support the women detained at the Mbour prison,” she said. This initiative, presented as one of the first of its kind in the jurisdiction, aims primarily to remind everyone that incarcerated women remain full members of the community. “It’s also a way of telling them they are not forgotten. They are part of society and, sooner or later, they will return,” the spokesperson added.

A call to broaden the chain of solidarity

Beyond the symbolic gesture, the organizers of the initiative appealed to local authorities and people of goodwill to strengthen this chain of solidarity for the benefit of vulnerable women. The Public Prosecutor commended this gesture, describing it as "highly symbolic." He offered his sincere encouragement to the women behind the initiative, expressing his hope that this spirit of generosity would continue and inspire further actions to support people in precarious situations.
