Mbour : un vigile dérobe ordinateurs et chaises pour compenser son maigre salaire
JB Sarr, a former soldier turned security guard, was tried by the Mbour District Court for the theft of equipment belonging to an NGO. Taking advantage of his boss's absence in Touba, he stole two computers worth 1.2 million CFA francs and five "minister" chairs worth 175,000 CFA francs, which he then sold off on the Mbour black market, reports L'Observateur.
After the theft, the same source continues, he abruptly stopped showing up for work, arousing the suspicions of his boss, who ended up filing a complaint. Arrested and then remanded in custody, the accused, who took over the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group, admitted the facts at the hearing, citing an insufficient salary (50,000 CFA francs per month) to justify his actions.
The accused's family paid 620,000 CFA francs during the hearing and agreed to repay the remainder. The court found him guilty but, taking into account the circumstances, sentenced him to an eight-month suspended prison sentence.
