Ménage polygame : Une dispute autour d'un plat finit au tribunal, la première épouse condamnée

The district court examined a case of intentional assault and battery (CBV) between two co-wives.

The first wife, S. Kane, is being prosecuted for assaulting the second wife, A. Kany, following a dispute over a meal. According to the plaintiff, it all started with an invitation to eat. When she replied that she wasn't hungry, she claims that her co-wife misinterpreted this refusal, sparking a heated argument. The dispute escalated into physical violence. The first wife, S. Kane, aided by her daughters, allegedly beat the second wife, causing her injuries.

The defendant contested the charges, denying any assault. She maintains that the victim faked the incident by rolling on the ground until she injured herself.

The husband of the two women, Mr. Keïta, testified against his first wife. He claimed that she was at fault and stated that he had reprimanded, even beaten, his daughters for their involvement in the altercation.

The public prosecutor requested the application of the law. The judge ultimately found S. Kane guilty and sentenced her to a suspended fine of 20,000 FCFA.
