Mort d'un ouvrier sur un chantier à Pikine : Le patron d'Ecomex SARL et le directeur de chantier sous les verrous
New development in the case of the death of a worker on a construction site in Pikine. On May 7, 2026, Cheikh Anta Ndongo, director of the company Ecomex SARL, in charge of the construction of the R+3 building belonging to the general Khalif of the Omarienne Family in Dakar, was taken into custody on the instructions of prosecutor Saliou Dicko, head of the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office, according to Seneweb sources.
During his interrogation, the contractor stated that he was not on the construction site at the time of the incident. He maintained that he had taken all necessary steps to equip the site with personal and collective protective equipment, believing that it was the responsibility of the site manager, F. Sambou, who was already in custody, to ensure that this equipment was worn and that the workers were safe.
These arguments failed to convince the public prosecutor, who ordered CA Ndongo to remain in custody for endangering the lives of others. The investigation is ongoing.
As a reminder, a tragedy occurred on May 6, 2026, around 6:00 PM, at a construction site in Pikine Dominique. A worker lost his life after being fatally struck in the head by a detached hoist. F. Sambou, the site technician and supervisor, alerted the Pikine district police station.
Investigators who arrived at the scene found that the accident occurred in a three-story building under construction. The victim, Mamadou Dia, aged about 30, was found dead on the ground floor, near the freight elevator, with a serious head injury.
According to the testimonies gathered, the victim, in the company of MS Barry and A. Bâ, was loading jerrycans of water into the freight elevator intended to be transported to the third floor.
It was at this moment that A. Diallo, who was on the upper floor, activated the device. During its ascent, the hoist's hook suddenly detached, causing the lift to fall and fatally striking Mamadou Dia in the head. The fire department, alerted to the incident, transported the body to Dalal Jamm Hospital. The workers present, as well as the site manager, were taken to the police station for questioning. Having been informed of the incident, Prosecutor Saliou Dicko, head of the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office, ordered their detention for endangering the lives of others.
