Mort suspecte d’un bébé : la première réaction du directeur de l’hôpital de Diourbel
The investigation into the death of a baby shortly after birth in the street outside the Diourbel Regional Hospital last Friday has been launched. Hearings began this Sunday.
Contacted by Source A, the director of the establishment, Bocar Sow, promised to react. "The events occurred in my absence, I cannot, for the moment, comment," he declared. "But I will issue a statement tomorrow [Monday] to give our share of the truth."
The case has moved many Senegalese. A woman named Astou Ndiaye reportedly presented herself at the Diourbel Regional Hospital on the recommendation of staff from the health district where she initially went to give birth. Unfortunately for her, the midwife on duty reportedly refused to admit her, claiming there was a lack of space due to construction work in the maternity ward.
It was after leaving the hospital that she allegedly gave birth in the street and lost her child in the process. The Diourbel prosecutor, who took charge of the case, called for an investigation, referring the case to the local central police station.
