Nouvelle saisie de billets noirs : Saisie de plus d’un milliard de francs CFA dans le centre du Sénégal
As part of a crackdown on counterfeiting and financial crime, customs officers from the Kaolack subdivision intercepted a large quantity of counterfeit banknotes on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at approximately 4:00 PM during an operation in Dioffior, in the Fatick region. The seizure included 695 counterfeit $100 notes and 2,931 counterfeit €500 notes, with a total estimated value of 1,001,057,125 CFA francs.
According to customs officials, this operation was the result of intelligence indicating an attempt to launder counterfeit currency, planned from a neighboring country. The transaction was to take place in the Saloum Islands, specifically in the Djifère–Fimela–Dionewar area.
To thwart the operation, customs officers from the Kaolack mobile brigade, supported by the Keur Moussa customs post, set up a surveillance and tracking operation. This strategy led to the arrest of three individuals in Dioffior in possession of the suspicious currency. The arrested individuals were taken into custody and are expected to be brought before the Kaolack prosecutor's office in the coming hours.
This new seizure comes after other operations carried out recently in the same area, which had already resulted in the seizure of counterfeit banknotes with an estimated value of 730 million CFA francs.
Customs authorities indicate that investigations are continuing in order to dismantle the networks involved in these counterfeiting activities.
