Occupation anarchique, mendicité, cérémonies…: Le gouvernement annonce la couleur
The Senegalese government resumed its traditional press conferences this Friday. The Minister of the Interior, who was scheduled to address the issue of traffic congestion relief operations, ultimately did not attend the day's session. Instead, the government spokesperson spoke in his place.
Marie-Rose Faye indicated that "these are very important operations, structured around three points." And these points are: reorganization, security (of populations and public spaces), and the provision of a healthy living environment.
She emphasized that these operations are also in preparation for hosting the Youth Olympic Games (YOG), which will be held in Dakar next year. "This is an international event that an African country will be hosting for the first time. So we must project a positive image, an image consistent with a cosmopolitan capital," the government spokesperson said.
Marie Rose Faye reminded everyone that the law prohibits the illegal occupation of public spaces. Therefore, "anyone who wants to occupy public space must have a permit." And those who fail to comply with this requirement will have broken the law. "And we want to enforce the law," she warned, also pointing out that begging in public spaces is prohibited.
"We will continue these operations. We will respect everyone and respect the rules. The security aspect will be taken into account. And there will be follow-up so that everyone can truly see that there has been a change," she assured.
