Pain à 150 FCFA : les boulangers dénoncent des pertes et menacent de...
The National Federation of Bakers of Senegal (FNBS) is sounding the alarm about the critical situation in the sector, which it considers to be "on the verge of economic collapse." Faced with plummeting profitability, bakers are threatening to paralyze bread production and distribution throughout the country.
According to the federation, quoted by Les Échos, maintaining the price of a baguette at 150 CFA francs, combined with the "skyrocketing cost of inputs," is plunging businesses into a financial crisis. The FNBS asserts that bakeries are now operating at a loss, a situation that directly jeopardizes "thousands of jobs" across the country.
The organization strongly condemns the "inaction of the authorities" and the failure of the state to honor commitments made over the past two years. It deplores a "documented crisis" that has remained without a concrete response, criticizing the lack of any real support measures.
Faced with what they consider a threat to the stability of the sector, bakers are demanding immediate solutions. Failing that, they warn that a "national action plan" will be implemented. To clarify its intentions, the FNBS will hold a press conference next Wednesday, the newspaper concludes.
