Coupure d’électricité à Saraya, Sabodala et Bembou : la Senelec explique les causes et rassure les populations
The populations of the communes of Saraya, Sabodala and Bembou, in the Kédougou region, faced a momentary interruption of the electricity supply following a technical incident on the distribution network of the National Electricity Company of Senegal (Senelec).
In a press release dated January 21, 2026 (no. 00258-2026) and signed by the Central-Eastern Regional Delegation, Senelec reports that the outage was caused by a cable fault resulting from a broken overhead power line. According to the press release, the incident was caused by construction equipment that damaged electrical installations on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
This situation resulted in a total power outage in the affected areas, causing significant disruption to households, services, and businesses. In response to this incident, Senelec reassured its customers, stating that all technical teams are fully mobilized to restore power as quickly as possible.
The national company also apologizes to users for the inconvenience caused by this interruption beyond its control.
The administrative and security authorities of the Kédougou region, including the Governor, the Gendarmerie, the Police and the health structures, have been informed of the situation.
