Pape Natango Mbaye : «J’ai moins mal»
News of Pape Natango Mbaye, the young high school graduate who became famous for earning his diploma by writing with his feet. Le Soleil reports that he has seen a significant improvement in the motor skills of his arms thanks to treatment he received in Israel. Suffering from generalized dystonia of the upper limbs, he was taken in charge by the Israeli Embassy in Senegal, in collaboration with Pepsi, and received two and a half months of intensive care at Sheba Medical Center.
Upon his return, the young man was received this Thursday by the Israeli ambassador to Dakar, Yuval Waks. As reported by the national daily newspaper, Pape Natango Mbaye explained that he had chosen long-term medication rather than surgery, following medical examinations conducted there. He confided that the medication had significantly reduced his daily pain and improved the mobility of his upper limbs.
“After the medical tests, I had two options: surgery or long-term treatment. I chose the second option. The medication has done me a lot of good. Today I feel a clear improvement in the motor skills of my arms and muscle contraction. Pain was a daily occurrence, but it has greatly decreased,” he testified.
After two and a half months of treatment, the procedure will continue in Senegal thanks to a collaboration between Senegalese and Israeli doctors. An even more significant improvement is expected within three months. Enrolled at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), Pape Natango will begin his courses in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science on March 2nd.
