The village of Gonaguél, in the commune of Sandiara, remains marked by the memory of November 17, 2020, the date of an extremely violent parricide. Last Friday, before the Criminal Court of Mbour, the account of the last moments of old L. Sène chilled the audience.
Around 8:30 a.m. on the day of the incident, the head of the family invited his son, D. Sène, to share breakfast. The latter, armed with an iron bar, entered his father's room and struck him a first violent blow to the head. In a frenzy described by L'Observateur as "of unprecedented atrocity," he struck again, piercing the throat of his dying victim. The autopsy concluded that death was due to secondary asphyxiation. After the attack, the suspect fled before being apprehended in the family fields by the Sandiara gendarmerie.
The mobile
The case reveals a disturbing motive: during the preliminary investigation, D. Sène confessed to killing his father because he suspected him of trying to "take his soul" through mystical practices. But before the Criminal Court, he completely changed his story, denying the charges and claiming amnesia and impaired mental faculties. He even described the victim as his "only friend and confidant," reports the Future Media Group (GFM).
Psychiatric expertise, a determining factor
This defense strategy was refuted by the psychiatric evaluation ordered by the investigating judge. The evaluation concluded that the accused was fully aware of his actions at the time of the events, thus ruling out the argument of criminal irresponsibility. The family had also suggested possible substance abuse as a possible explanation for his actions.
The prosecutor, while acknowledging mitigating circumstances given the psychological complexity of the case, maintained that the intent to kill was established. He requested a 10-year prison sentence.
The verdict is expected on May 15, concludes the Gfm headline.
