A tragedy occurred on May 6, 2026, around 6 p.m., at a construction site in Pikine Dominique. A worker lost his life after being fatally struck in the head by a detached hoist.
It was F. Sambou, the site technician and manager, who alerted the Pikine district police station. Investigators, who arrived at the scene, determined that the accident had occurred in a three-story building under construction. The victim, Mamadou Dia, approximately 30 years old, was found dead on the ground floor, near the freight elevator, with a severe head injury.
According to witness statements, the victim, along with MSBarry and A. Bâ, was loading water containers into the freight elevator destined for the third floor. It was at this moment that Amadou Diallo, who was on the floor above, activated the mechanism. During its ascent, the elevator's hook suddenly detached, causing the elevator to plummet and fatally striking Mamadou Dia in the head.
Firefighters, alerted to the incident, transported the body to Dalal Jamm Hospital. The workers present, as well as the site manager, were taken to the police station for questioning. Upon learning of the events, Prosecutor Saliou Dicko, head of the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office, ordered their detention for endangering the lives of others, according to Seneweb sources. An investigation is underway.
