Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has addressed critical infrastructure issues in Ziguinchor. Following the Korîté prayer at his neighborhood mosque in Néma, the PM outlined plans for the construction of the Emile Badiane Bridge, the Cap Skirring road, and the reopening of Ziguinchor Airport."Regarding Ziguinchor Airport, on my way here I even wanted to land at the airport. I asked the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Infrastructure to see if it was possible to land in Ziguinchor. They told me they are applying the final asphalt layer and that the commitment to deliver this airport by the end of April will, God willing, be honored," stated the PM.He added: "We are all eager for this airport to reopen, and it will allow work on the Cap-Skirring road to proceed much more smoothly. But I believe the ministers will respect that schedule and that soon this airport will be reopened, God willing."In the same vein, the Prime Minister emphasized that the urgent priorities in Ziguinchor also include the Emile Badiane Bridge and the Ziguinchor-Cap Skirring corridor. "With or without partners, we can begin," affirmed the head of government, stressing that the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the Emile Badiane Bridge is imminent.Ousmane Sonko addressed funding obstacles, particularly following the suspension of the program with the International Monetary Fund. "The funding that was to be provided awaits the evolution of our discussions with the IMF. And I said we cannot wait," he explained.Faced with this situation, he clearly outlined a new doctrine centered on sovereignty. To this end, 30 billion CFA francs have been allocated in the 2026 budget to accelerate projects. "My strategy for all our projects is that we no longer wait for external funding," he said.Through this statement, Ousmane Sonko sketches the broad outlines of a governance model focused on sovereignty, the effectiveness of public policies, and the preservation of national stability, in a context marked by persistent security and economic challenges.
